Engagements
Subject matter expertise, on your side of the table.
Most of our clients are consultants and analysts. They already know the data exists — they need the part that takes years to learn: which file actually answers the question, and what the answer means once you have it.
- Service lines
- Data extracts & analysis · Reimbursement advisory
- Commercials
- Fixed scope and fixed price, agreed before work starts
- First step
- A free scoping call on whether the data supports it
Service 1
Custom data extracts & analysis
The cohorts the filters can't build and the joins the schema doesn't ship.
The portal answers the questions we anticipated. When yours falls outside them, we work against the full warehouse — all 40 tables, including the cold layers the portal never surfaces — and hand back a dataset built to your specification.
What it includes
- Cohort construction across the full source layer, not just the published views
- Entity matching against your own provider, client, or prospect lists
- Peer-group and market benchmarking with a defined comparison set
- Delivery as CSV, Parquet, or a table loaded into your warehouse
Service 2
Reimbursement & cost report advisory
HCRIS is 496 million numeric values addressed by worksheet, line, and column. We read it for a living.
Cost report work goes wrong in specific, repeatable ways: the wrong worksheet version for the fiscal year, an amended report silently superseding a settled one, a line that moved between form revisions. We know where those are.
What it includes
- Worksheet-level interpretation of filed reports, by fiscal year and form version
- IME, GME, and DSH computation, review, and reconciliation
- Medicare reimbursement modelling across multi-year fiscal periods
- Checks against filed values, amendment history, and settlement status
Typical questions
The kind of thing people bring us.
- “Which hospitals in this market have run negative operating margins for three consecutive filed years?”
- “What does this health system's uncompensated care look like against its Schedule H community benefit reporting?”
- “Which facilities in our client list can we match to a CCN, an NPI, and an EIN with confidence?”
- “How has this provider's IME and GME position moved across the last five cost report years?”
How an engagement runs
Four steps, in this order.
Fixed scope, fixed price, and a handover you can re-run yourself. We would rather you not need us next time.
01
Scoping call
You describe the question. We tell you whether the public record can answer it, which files would carry the answer, and where it gets fragile. No charge, and sometimes the answer is that you don't need us.
02
Written scope and price
A fixed scope: the deliverable, the sources it draws on, the method, and a flat price. You approve before any work starts, so there's no meter running.
03
Build and reconcile
We build against the warehouse and check the result against the filed source — amendment history, settlement status, form version by fiscal year. Findings that don't reconcile get flagged, not smoothed over.
04
Handover
The dataset, plus the method that produced it: source list, join logic, and every assumption we had to make. You can re-run it next year without us.
Tell us the question before you commit to anything.
The scoping call is free and often short. If the public record can’t support what you need, we’ll say so.
